SILVER BELLS ARE RINGING FOR
ADOPT-A-FAMILY’S
25TH ANNUAL TREE LIGHTING CELEBRATION
Lake Worth, Fla. (Sept. 3, 2009) --- Adopt-A-Family of the Palm Beaches will ring in their Silver Anniversary Tree Lighting Celebration on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at the Sailfish Club in Palm Beach beginning at 6:00 p.m. Twenty-six years ago, Adopt-A-Family helped its first family. Last year, over 3,200 Palm Beach County families were helped through the agency’s programs.
The Tree Lighting Celebration is the agency’s largest fundraiser and commemorates the concept of “helping families help themselves.” All proceeds from the event benefit local families and their children, enabling them to return to a self-sufficient environment.
Mrs. Florence A. De George is serving as Honorary Chairman, as the evening is dedicated to the memory of her late husband, Lawrence, and their long-time support of the organization. The event begins with The King’s Academy Choir welcoming guests with holiday songs as they arrive for the evening. Inside they will enjoy a cocktail reception and a beautiful silent auction featuring one of the area’s largest selections of live orchids and holiday gifts. Afterwards, guests are treated to a gourmet dinner, followed by a live auction, with the opportunity to fund specific needs of the Adopt-A-Family community.
One of the highlights of the evening is the lighting of the “Angel tree.” The tree showcases decorated angels representing the generous “adopters” who have helped Palm Beach County families over the past year and at holiday time. As the lights on the tree sparkle, Adopt-A-Family children sing holiday carols with great gusto.
To celebrate the Silver Anniversary, nearly all of the former chairmen of the event have returned to serve as co-chairmen. They include Maria Barnes, Lori Corrigan, Heather Ferguson, Julie Gambale, Beth Hennessy, Ruth Hennessy, Vanessa Henry, Roger Jorn, Wendy Labbett, Paula Michel, Debra Parr, Kathy Peterson, Lynn Surovek, Lisa Swift and Alice Tarone.
Founded in 1983, Adopt-A-Family of the Palm Beaches, Inc. is dedicated to restoring families in crisis to stability and self-sufficiency by providing access to critical services to families and their children. Adopt-A-Family works with families with children, single parents not receiving child support, the working poor who are at risk of becoming homeless, homeless children and their families and families dealing with major medical illnesses.
The event is by invitation only and tickets are $250. For more information about Adopt-A-Family programs or to add your name to the invitation list, please call Kitty at (561) 253-1361 or visit the web site at www.adoptafamilypbc.org and click on the Tree Lighting page.
